Wowza! Is This the Greatest Piece of Furniture??

My little friend from my favorite thrift shop sent me a photo of this last week and asked if I was interested.  I said, "yes, but what exactly is it"? Hello? It's a bench!!  The best looking bench ever in the history of furniture making, that's what it is!!!

BEFORE

I custom mixed this dark "teal" shade and used a navy and turquoise to give the bench this finish.  If you look closely, you can see all the variation.

I kept those amazing wood veneer doors but added a fresh coat of stain and poly.  Knobs by Anthropologie, obviously:-)

Now, if I could find pieces of furniture like this every week, I'd be in heaven!
This is available HERE on my Etsy shop, The Turquoise Iris.

Thanks and have a lovely day,

This is Why I Love Vintage Furniture

I always mention I love to create one of a kind pieces of furniture.  I knew right away I would paint this frame but was unsure of what color.  I asked for suggestions on Facebook and Instagram.  I was leaning towards a metallic copper or duck egg blue.  Several followers suggested a shade of blue but I also heard colors like coral, teal, emerald, red and gray.
This yummy camel fabric is in great condition and so soft so I chose to keep it.  I think these two colors suggest a calm relaxing feeling....and, well I just like that feeling.

You may notice I used the rug as my inspiration.

Vintage Record Cabinet and Me - Living with Color

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a huge fan of color. Obviously, turquoise is my favorite but I also love shades of red, coral, and green.  I believe color adds warmth and character to a home, style and charisma to an outfit, and overall fun to your day. Colors create feelings, a mood or a memory. This is what makes my heart happy - all these various colors and playing with them to create a look that's all mine.

I painted this vintage record cabinet this week.  I've held onto this paper for awhile now because I knew the right piece would eventually come along.  This was it and this dark green gives the cabinet a masculine look.  The knobs are a "horn - like " material from Anthropologie.

I don't have a record player or records for that matter.  I hope I know the person that buys this piece.  I bet they're way cooler than me.  Maybe they'll invite me over to listen to a record or two. ;-)

Navy Blue Hutch with Decoupage Drawers

I'm convinced paint as magical powers.  Look how simply it transforms the ordinary and brings new life to a discarded "garage sale find".

It's hard to see from this photo, but I added a white wash finish to the interior of the cabinet.

The drawers are covered in paper.  I custom mixed these two paint colors to coordinate and I love how the image pulls the whole look together.

Black, Brass & Malachite

Look at this gem.
...
....
.....

I bought this malachite paper from Spoonflower over the summer and I've searched for the perfect piece to paint black and add this dramatic look.  I polished the brass hardware because it's simply gorgeous. I think this would be lovely just about anywhere someone wanted to add a classically sophisticated look. The size is perfect for most rooms.
