This is #5 of Part III in my "Doors" Series. 

I loved every minute of this series. Not only did I learn new techniques, I also explored my own creativity and allowed myself to just "play" with the paint.  I started using Heirloom Traditions Paint and fell in love with their colors, especially Steamer Trunk, Feathered Nest and Alexandrite.  

I have been pinning door images on my Pinterest page titled, Doors Around the World.  This collection of images has been the greatest source of inspiration for me. I encourage you all to find something that inspires, motivates and helps to develop your creativity.  It's so rewarding and actually very necessary for some of us!

I think this piece is perfect for almost any room.  It's small enough to accent a hall or entry but the drawers are large enough to hold plenty of linens or clothing.

How to Hand Paint an Antique Vanity to Look Like an Authentic Old Door in Mexico and Me Dressed Like I'm Ready for Mexico

Who else loves a deep rich green gemstone? I  mean the kind that sucks you in and begs you to gaze at it for days. I do and I love it very much. This shade is called Alexandrite from Heirloom Traditions Paint. I can't lie, I know why I adore this color so much. Take a look below.

Can you see that it has just the right amount of my favorite color in it? 

Turquoise...ahhh...yes!! The golden child ( color ) in my book.

This vanity is #2 of Part III in my "Doors" series.  

I added a little watered down Ol' Navy to a few areas of this finish.  Look at that amazing original hardware!

This is the door image from my Pinterest  board titled, Doors. I love to look for inspiration in unexpected things.  I'm beginning to plan a series of furniture makeovers inspired pastels and gold leaf.  With all of the talented furniture artists, I'm looking for ways to be original, unique and true to myself.

Yep, this is the moment I realized I dressed myself to match the furniture I've been painting. Either that or I'm in desperate need of vacation, LOL.

I finished this piece with the Dark Umber wax.  It gave the final look more depth and texture. 

I think what I'm loving most about this series is I don't have to be perfect with the finish.  The more I paint, the better it looks, which is often the opposite when painting furniture.  I get to make a mess, rough up the finish and use as many colors as I choose. I'm in a creative heaven, really.

See The Old Doors that Inspired this Hand Painted Multi Colored Large Armoire Furniture Makeover

BEWARE!!!

You are either going to L-O-V-E this makeover to pieces, hate it with a big Y-U-C-K, or think I've lost my mind.  That's okay, though.  I've learned and began to believe it's best for me to paint for myself and not for the mainstream.  It's more important to me to create a one-of-a-kind original piece of furniture than to stay in the "safe zone". There are some amazing furniture painters / artists that I admire and aspire to in regards to business handling.

 I, however, am enjoying going my own way creatively. 

This is #5 in my "Doors" series, Part II. This armoire is huge and already had such a great shape to it.  I really wanted to give it a dramatic makeover...mission accomplished.

This is the image from my Doors board on Pinterest that inspired my painting technique.  I created my own color palette but kept it similar to this one.  It packs a punch full of color, charm, and authenticity.

See the drip? Well, that took some courage!
We are told paint drips are bad...felt like a REBEL! It was fun but for anyone that knows me personally, rebel is not a name you'd use to describe me.

I'm making plans for my next series but haven't decided on a theme.  My ideas include a Part III Doors series, a group of makeovers inspired by pastels and gold leaf or a group themed by wildflowers.  

Any suggestions? I'd love to hear them.

Hand Painted Cobalt and White Furniture Makeover Inspired By Mexico Accented with an Otomi Print

Who doesn't LOVE a blue and white color palette?!?! 

It's a classic combo but I had to add some edge to this makeover. 

This is #3 in my "Doors" Series, Part II. I've sold out of every piece so there may just have to be a Part III!!

I used Oxford, Steamer Trunk and Ol' Navy from Heirloom Traditions Paint again for this makeover. The Oxidized Patina wax, once again, gave this finish just the right amount of oomph! 

Sky Soarer knobs and bowls from Anthropologie.

This is the door that inspired this colour palette and finish.  I really tried to recreate a worn and weathered look. I can't really explain how much fun this was to paint. I turned in to a 6 year old pretty quickly! Pinterest is a wonderful source for beautiful images, don't you think? I have a board titled, "Doors", if you are interested in following along. 

I know, I really pushed the envelope here, but it was necessary here.  This maple buffet was just so drab. Otomi paper from Spoonflower. It's also available in a multi colored print.

I have to tell you, this buffet gave me over 900 views on my Etsy shop, The Turquoise Iris in 24 hours!! That, my friends, is AMAZING!! You guys are awesome.

Hand Painted Shades of Grey Antique Buffet in Rustic a Finish & Colour Palette, Number II in my Second "Doors" Series

What do you get when you bring home a really old buffet, paint it with five different colors, then distress the paint here and there, finish it with two different colored waxes, add some aging dust and lastly, adorn it with some really pretty mercury glass knobs???

This, I guess. 

Let's just say it turned out better than I imagined.  I had a plan for this makeover, but I hardly ever stick with the plan, mostly never.

Both my husband and my 14 year old said, "You going to fix the top part and remove all these trim broken pieces"?  My son assured me no one will want this buffet. Love him;-)

When will they learn? I agree, it doesn't look new, not even close.  It's used, worn and weathered, and I absolutely love it!!!

This is the 2nd piece in my "Doors" Series, Part II. The image above is pinned on my Pinterest page and I used it for my inspiration. I adore the way the colors fade to one another and the finish has worn naturally. Doors, in general, can either be inviting, mysterious or completely breathtaking.  I think the latter applies to this door.

I used all Heirloom Traditions Paint products for this makeover. This is my second experience with these and I'm in love.  I used Steamer Trunk,  and Oxford for the main colors, both from the Vintiques Series.  I also mixed these two to get a third shade of gray. Quite Coral is peeking out from underneath those two and Ol' Navy is highlighting those fabulous legs. 

I added new mercury glass knobs to complete the look.

I was able to get a little aqua color by topping the paint finish with the Oxidized Patina soft wax. This is a new favorite product of mine, by the way. The Weathered White wax gave the darker colors a more"mocha" look...which is awfully creamy looking, yea!

I am having so much fun with this series of furniture! I'm getting so many encouraging comments all over social media and I'm so appreciative of all of you.  This buffet sold as soon as I posted it! So, the first five and now these two in Part II have all sold. 

What?!?!?! I know, right?

Last but not least, the "BEFORE" photo.  Seventy-two inches of good goodness!!
