Dining In? Out? Either is Good.

Does this SCREAM Summer to anyone else?!?!?!?

This dining table is #4 of Part III of my "Doors" Series. I used the Pinterest image below for my inspiration. I want to see what's behind that door and up those stairs, don't you?

I used Feathered Nest again and also, Quite Coral for this furniture makeover.  Both colors are from Heirloom Traditions.

You see that gold leaf? I had to add a bit of lux and it was really fun to use. Once again, I'm always looking for ways to create an original look and perspective. The gold leaf, combined with the paint drips, gave this basic old table a new look, bohemian maybe.

I styled the table with a wall hanging from Urban Outfitters, bowls from Anthropologie, and the large clam bowl is from ZGallerie.

Oh, there's that drip again...

How to Hand Paint an Antique Vanity to Look Like an Authentic Old Door in Mexico and Me Dressed Like I'm Ready for Mexico

Who else loves a deep rich green gemstone? I  mean the kind that sucks you in and begs you to gaze at it for days. I do and I love it very much. This shade is called Alexandrite from Heirloom Traditions Paint. I can't lie, I know why I adore this color so much. Take a look below.

Can you see that it has just the right amount of my favorite color in it? 

Turquoise...ahhh...yes!! The golden child ( color ) in my book.

This vanity is #2 of Part III in my "Doors" series.  

I added a little watered down Ol' Navy to a few areas of this finish.  Look at that amazing original hardware!

This is the door image from my Pinterest  board titled, Doors. I love to look for inspiration in unexpected things.  I'm beginning to plan a series of furniture makeovers inspired pastels and gold leaf.  With all of the talented furniture artists, I'm looking for ways to be original, unique and true to myself.

Yep, this is the moment I realized I dressed myself to match the furniture I've been painting. Either that or I'm in desperate need of vacation, LOL.

I finished this piece with the Dark Umber wax.  It gave the final look more depth and texture. 

I think what I'm loving most about this series is I don't have to be perfect with the finish.  The more I paint, the better it looks, which is often the opposite when painting furniture.  I get to make a mess, rough up the finish and use as many colors as I choose. I'm in a creative heaven, really.

Teal Wardrobe with Gold Highlights Furniture Makeover

So many of you gave me your feedback about my next series. Thank you for that...I appreciate your input.  "Pastels and golf leaf" won the vote but I opted to go ahead and do a Part III in my "Doors" series.  There are just so many beautiful old doors around the world and with it being vacation season, well... Here is #1 of Part III.

Here is the door image I've pinned on my Pinterest page titled, Doors. I adore these colors and the gold took it to a new level. This was the perfect look I needed to add drama to this antique wardrobe.

The original hardware is amazing, right?

I had to do the drip again, had to.

This gorgeous color is called Feathered Nest from Heirloom Traditions Paint. You know it's good if Allison with Refunk My Junk  developed this color! I added a little Oxford to the Feathered Nest to create a lighter shade for the middle of the doors. Quite Coral is in the seams and I watered down Ol' Navy  for the dripped color.  I'm really loving this paint and starting to get a real feel for the application.  Once everything was dry, I sealed the entire piece with Weathered White wax. If you haven't tried it, please give it a shot.  You won't be disappointed!!

Coral Mini Wardrobe with Teal Accents Furniture Makeover

I'm back!!!

I've been busy working on quite a few custom commissioned pieces.  

Now that those are done,  I've started a series of 5 new furniture makeovers.  

All of these are inspired by doors, old European doors.  You know the ones all over Pinterest...colorful, perfectly aged and full of authentic charm. 

I used four different colors on this mini wardrobe, all of which are complimentary. This style allows me to explore my creativity more than any other.  I think this is why love it so.

I cleaned out my paint cabinets and made some wall art!

The inside...I wanted it to really pop when the door opens.  This paper helped me decide on my color choices, thank you Spoonflower!

I Learned a Little Something Today

My client contacted me over a month ago looking for a piece of furniture like this one.  I was thrilled when I found this one on Craigslist! I never find anything good there.  He requested "white Nordic ornate" with heavy distressing.  

 1. I didn't know what that meant, exactly. He expressed his ideas with me for the finish and explained a heavy Jacobean contrast.  

2. Since it's a custom, I felt added pressure to get it just right.  He had a very clear vision for this makeover.  

3.  His confidence in me and my work gave me the assurance I needed.  I blazed in to this unsure but ended feeling pretty proud! 

I sent him photos but I can't wait for him to see it in person next week! It's headed to Waco, TX.
